session 4
This week book buddy session took place at his house. At the beginning of the semester I was nervous that my book buddy would not want to do these activities with me. But I have found out that Jack loves to do this with me, he feels special because he gets to “help” me with my homework. This week we read I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff. This story is about Alex who tries to convince his mom to get an Iguana. Alex and his mom communicate through letters. For my comprehension activity I decided Jack would write a letter to his mom about getting an iguana. We then did a picture sort of reptiles, and then the copy cat activity. Then to end we did the writing activity, which Jack drew a picture of what his iguana would look like. I found all my materials successful and everything worked great. To end Jack read a story to me, he likes doing this. He points to all the pictures and talks about them and kind of makes up a story of his own. This week he read pete the cat - halloween. He did a great job retelling the story from what he remembered. This weeks session went really well, and he enjoyed this book! Everything went smoothly and as planned. ![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/XMywuqRYlrRV8RNwnnFlkNSLct8LscAbcQWgtxyd_lcEaAX-PDFGEANbbwiMGUm4QZlaZ69Sjf1tEBXooXeQccwTBcvm5FrFGl9BZX8oukBppyMXm-b3CSeDSEnDYrBzGItUsn31)
The comprehension and writing activity kind of went together this week. For the comprehension I had a prewritten worksheet of a letter format for jack to fill in. Jack told me what he wanted to say and I wrote it in for him. I like how he said he would “never hurt him”. I thought this was an unique answer from him. For the writing activity Jack drew what his iguana would look like. He loves to draw and is a great drawer. He added in color and he even added in his iguana tank. He had me write “this is my iguana in his tank” on his paper for him.
During the picture sort Jack asked me how he should sort the reptiles. I told him that could do whatever he thinks. At first I gave him some ideas, but he went with color which he did last picture sort. Once he was done doing this I asked him another way he would did it. We worked together to sort the reptiles based off of where they lived. I wish I had added more of a range of reptiles, I had some repeats of certain animals. I will remember this for next time.
